Huron Church Road Closure

Friends, please know that I've been dedicating every hour of every day communicating and relaying the concerns of residents and businesses to the Police, the Mayor's office, and the leadership team at City Hall regarding the ongoing national security situation along Huron Church Rd.

Three very recent updates that I'd like to share are the following:

  1. Residents in Sandwich Town taking the Central 3 will be offered free bus passes during this temporary closure;
  2. The intersection at Industrial and Northwood has been opened for east/west traffic; and
  3. Emergency Services (Fire and Ambulance) will not be delayed or affected by this closure. Police have stated and posted publicly that response times will remain the same.

I will be sharing more in the coming days, but in the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach me directly at fcostante@citywindsor.ca or at 519-252-1005.

I must re-iterate that this is a national security and police situation and Council does not have the authority, legal or otherwise, to direct policing operations. Police at all levels (Windsor Police, OPP and RCMP) are acting based on information and intelligence that only they have at this time. As you may know, both the Premier of Ontario and the Prime Minister invoked Emergency Acts to deal with the matter, and the City sought an injunction to assist in this effort as well.

These are unprecedented times and just as recently as in the last 24 hours, a convoy was intercepted by police that was headed to the Ambassador Bridge. This situation is truly ongoing and fluid, changing hour by hour, day by day.

To the residents and businesses, I hear you and I see you. As a resident and business owner on the West Side, I am also affected like some of you, but I know many are dealing with greater hardships right now and I empathize with your situation. These past 10+ days have been extremely challenging and difficult for so many. I want you to know that I am here, ready and willing to help, in any capacity that I can, even if it’s just to vent or talk.

Now more than ever, we need to support our local businesses in the area. If you can, please consider supporting as they need your help. We are one big family here on the West Side and although we may not always agree, when things get difficult we have each other’s back. Given that the Country’s eyes are on Windsor and specifically the west-end, let’s show the world that we are strong, united and resilient.

  1. HELLLLLLLLP!!

    Fabio: Please HELP me at your earliest convenience.
    I just spent two EXTREMELY ANXIETY-PROVOKING,
    FRUSTRATING afternoons calling countless agencies for help with increasing my water pressure, which is NOT as strong as I would like it to be, and it's much weaker than where I was living up until March 10th, 2022.
    I would be eternally grateful to you if you could please direct me to whomever can ACTUALLY assist me with this matter.
    Sincerely, Rebekah Roach
