Our West End

Friends, Great news. I was recently contacted and informed that the Sandwich IDA Pharmacy just opened up a new blood lab in the same building on 3211 Sandwich Street. According to Julie Knapp, the blood lab's manager, the new service will provide EKGs, phlebotomy services, specimen collections (i.e. urine samples, etc.), and much more. Furthermore, Julie noted that if you get a blood requisition from a doctor, you can bring that to this new blood lab and they can provide the services requested. The owner of IDA chose to open up this new service because of location and felt it was needed in the west-end. So now, in addition to the walk-in clinic and pharmacy at IDA, there is also a blood lab service. Friends,  Leann and I had dinner at Stathis Grill (located at 1657 College Ave.) yesterday evening, and like always, the food and service was excellent. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of food. It is no wonder why finding a seat was hard to come by yesterday evening.  If you haven't checked it out yet I would strongly encourage you do. You will not be disappointed.  You can visit their website and browse their menu at  Stathis Grill .  What was once an abandoned commercial building is now a booming Greek Grill. A new restaurant recently opened up on College Ave., just east of Campbell, called Stathis Grill. I am looking forward to checking it out, and you should too! It has replaced the former "Dean's" that was located there. Whenever a business invests and locates in an area, it is a sign of confidence in the neighbourhood. Friends, I have a few news updates to share. Parks and Pools As you may know, Atkinson Pool will no longer be an item for discussion at City Council.  This is great news. Several residents have contacted me regarding South Tilston Park.  It has been decided by many that a public meeting at this time will not be beneficial.  I have been working diligently on this issue and have had several discussions with our Councillor and others about this as well.  Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions or concerns.  It is our hope that South Tilston receives the same good news as Atkinson Pool did recently. Positive News I have just found out some very positive news today regarding an initiative that I have been working on for several years in the west-end.  There will be a public press conference regarding this great news in the near future.  Until then, I cannot say much, other then the fact that this positive development...

Dear Residents: This morning I had breakfast with a few friends at The Station restaurant located at the end of Pelletier St. just east of McKay Ave.  It has been a few months since I've been to The Station as I used to frequent the place regularly over the past few years.  For those who have never been, I highly recommend you check it out.  It's almost hidden, located at the end of Pelletier St. before the tracks, but it has great breakfast (they also serve lunch and dinner) for very low prices considering the quantity of food you are getting. It also has a bit of history.  For those unfamiliar with the area, it is where our train station used to be until sometime before 1984 when the station ceased passenger travel.  After many years of vacancy, an arsonist put an end to the station on November 15, 1996.  However, the restaurant behind the station did not burn down and has been a local gem for the west-end community ever since.
