Fires in Sandwich Towne

Below is an email sent to me from a west-end resident:

Windsor firefighters were kept busy overnight responding to multiple fires in the Sandwich area.
Firefighters responded for reports of an abandoned house fully engulfed in flames on Windsor’s west side, around 1am Saturday morning.

Crews arrived on scene near the corner of Brock and Edison streets and found a boarded up home — one of many homes owned by the Ambassador Bridge — with fire on the second floor and smoke drifting across the neighbourhood.

The fire was quickly put out. The fire caused $5000 in damage.

Minutes later, firefighters were called to the intersection of Peter and Chippewa for a couch on fire.
Then around 3:50am, firefighters were called to the 3500 block of Peter Street for a garage on fire. Fire crews arrived and found the garage in an alley shared with Queen Street fully engulfed in flames. The fire caused a bit of damage to a neighbouring house. Police were immediately called. Damage is $20,000.

It’s unknown at this time if the three incidents are related, however Windsor Police are investigating, and all three are considered to be acts of arson. No one was injured in any of the incidents. Damage is extensive.
